CUTV Basic Training

If you can't make it to our weekly training sessions, CUTV holds a weekend workshop once a month. This workshop provides all the training sessions necessary to enter the station's production cycle.
Pre-registration is mandatory and attendance on both Saturday and Sunday is required. If you can't make one of the two days, you can catch up at the following workshop offered. To register, please email info@cutvmontreal.ca for more information.

SATURDAY
WORKSHOP A: Research, Interview & Reporting
11:00AM-12:30PM
After an introduction to the station's programming mandate, participants are given training in the pre-production guidelines for news and television programmes. The lesson will reflect the importance of research in pre-production as well as interview methods and techniques for a successful shoot.
12:30-1:00PM: Lunch (provided by CUTV)
WORKSHOP B: Camera & Sound
1:15-4:30PM
In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of camera operation and audio recording. You will learn how to adjust to different lighting scenarios as well as different techniques for shooting interviews and for news coverage.
The workshop will be divided up in two components: Camera Basics & Shoot Setup. By the end of the workshop, the participants will have an undersanding of how to shoot and key things to remember when using a camera both inside and outside.
SUNDAY
WORKSHOP C: What is a Producer?
11:00AM-12:00PM
One hour will be spent explaining CUTV's show structures and how to be a producer at the station.
12:00-12:30pm: Lunch (provided by CUTV)
WORKSHOP D: Post-Production & Editing
1:00pm-5:00pm:
This workshop will go over the Final Cut Pro interface and the basics of starting a project. Attendees will also learn the basics of titling, audio tracks and adding credits to productions. This workshop will feature an exercise for participants to practice editing and putting together a clip for TV.
