CUTV internships - fall-winter 2012

CUTV is the biggest campus-community TV station in North America. The station’s weekly shows cover topics ranging from Community News, Arts+Culture, Food and Sustainability, Health and Wellness, Independent Film, Emerging Music, Magic, Local Comedy and more! CUTV’s productions are entirely produced by the station’s members, interns and staff.

CUTV is looking for motivated interns to get involved in one or various departments.

Internships for academic credit available.

Here is a short description of the positions available:

NEWS DEPT. -
N/D programming at CUTV is topic or issue–oriented. N/D programs focus on a specific issue or
represent news and views from community groups in the Montreal area. There are two
categories of N/D programming: Community Access and In–House.

Positions:
Concordia News Coordinator
The Concordia News Coordinator will be responsible for producing a weekly 5 minute video news segment on Concordia current affairs and campus news. The primary areas of interest will be Concordia administrative affairs, student politics, and campus activism.

Hours per week: The internship will last the duration of the Fall 2012 semester, and the intern will be expected to work 10-12 hours per week at CUTV.

Mentorship offered: The intern will gain various skills in video news production, including advanced camera training, sound, and editing with Final Cut Pro and Audobe Premiere. Moreover, the intern will work with our experienced production coordinators to gain experience in a real news room environment. Trainings will be offered to the intern in news research, script-writing, and the ethics of community journalism.

ARTS+CULTURE DEPT. -
A/C Programming at CUTV is oriented around independent and creative art that is not
represented on mainstream commercial television in Montreal. A/C programming also includes cultural content in the form of interviews, announcements and discussion, but the focus of these talk segments is usually directly related to the art displayed.

Positions:
CUTV’s Arts+Culture show is a monthly LIVE production in a LIVE venue. The A/C collective also produces segments on a weekly basis featuring forms of art that have little or no coverage.

-Arts + Culture Production Coordinator
This A/C Production Coordinator will work with A/C Production Manager and A/C producers to ensure the weekly output of the A/C show and segments. This position involves participating in the pre-production, production and post-production of A/C workflow. More specific duties include: coordinating crew, shoots, facilitate show meetings and assignments, revise and approve segments for distribution and research & archiving of relevant content for stories.

-Arts + Culture Production Assistant
The A/C Production Assistant will help the A/C Production Coordinator and Prod. Manager to coordinate shoots, check on equipment and shoot locations as well as participate in the preparation, production or editing of segments and shows.

-Wooden Spoon Production Coordinator
-Wooden Spoon Production Assistant
The Wooden Spoon is CUTV’s food and cooking show. The show features local restaurant reviews, tips and tricks on good food and health practices, stories on community initiatives for more sustainability and food sovereignty.

-Body Talks Production Coordinator
-Body Talks Production Assistant
Body Talks is a show about health, wellness and sexuality. Segments produced have covered a wide variety of questions, resources, debate topics and the array of activities available in Montreal to empower your body and yourself.

Requirements:
-Production Coordinators should be familiar with all aspects of production in order to communicate effectively with camera operators, reporters and editors.

-Production assistants should have some knowledge in editing (final cut or premiere), camera work, editing and research.

MUSIC & SOUND PRODUCTION DEPT. -

CUTV’s Music and Sound Department produces a number of shows on local and emerging musicians and bands (The Advisory, Spotlight, Carnage). The department also trains CUTV members in all aspects of sound production and mixing with the help of our very own audio recording studio and software.

Positions:
- Audio technician:
Learn the ins and outs of sound production and mixing in LIVE shoot or concert settings.
Responsibilities will include: Shoot set ups (choice and deployment of mics, recording media, etc), Location sound recording and mixing, Post-production editing/mixing in various software, Sound design, Studio recording, Composing music, Assisting in the audio training of new members.

- The Advisory Production Coordinator:
The Advisory is CUTV’s flagship weekly music show. It includes concert listings, album reviews, features with up and coming bands, musicians and venues. The Production Coordinator will participate in all aspects of show production from research to post-production. Duties will involve coordinating production meetings, scheduling interviews and shoots, editing footage and music clips. The Production Coordinator will work with the Music & Sound Dept. Production Manager and other CUTV interns and members.

- The Advisory Production Assistant:
This position is good for someone that is looking to increase their experience on live and pre-shot production settings. The Production Assistant will ensure all logistics and shoot aspects are taken care of. At times, the Production Assistant may take on tasks from Production Coordinator and Manager to assist the production.
