Producing at CUTV
Step 1: Get Registered!
Click here and register your profile in our system. When you participate in a production, your “Public Name” will be tagged in the credits section of the video's page. Please note that in order to be eligible for equipment pick-ups, your full name, address and phone number is required.
If you are not a Concordia undergraduate student, a yearly $20 fee will be required. This fee goes towards the workshops and training sessions provided by CUTV and helps support the station's activities.
Step 2: Start as a Production Assistant
Production Assistants can:
- Attend daily meetings to take on assignments for CUTV shows
- Book workstations for editing during office hours
In order to get access to equipment at the station, members are required to become Production Assistants by completing the three components of CUTV's basic training: Camera, Editing & Hosting/Reporting.
Every month CUTV holds training sessions and a special production workshop for new members. The production workshop is a weekend event that teaches attendees the basics of production at the station.
Training sessions and workshops will teach you:
- Basic camera operation and sound recording
- Shoot set-up, including tripods and wireless microphones
- Editing with Final Cut Pro
- Research, writing and reporting/hosting
Once you have completed your training, you are invited to come to daily meetings to take on assignments for one or more shows.
Step 3: Join the crew
Crew Members can:
- Access the station after office hours and on weekends
- Pick assignments at meetings or propose their own assignments to Production Managers
- Attend specialized workshops to learn advanced production skills
CUTV Crew Members have full access to the station and can pick their own assignments at meetings. In order to maintain the Crew Member status, you must be involved in at least one production per week.
Production Assistants are required to participate in production for 4 weeks before gaining Crew Member status.
Step 4: Become a producer!
Producers can:
- Create original segments for their own show
- Book cameras & equipment for their crew
If you're looking to have your own show at CUTV, you have to start as a part of the crew. Only Crew Members can become Producers and only Producers can create new shows!
In order to apply to be a Producer, Crew Members have to produce 4 original segments of a fixed length within 4 weeks. It does not matter how short or long your segments are, as long as each one is the exact same duration.
After meeting that objective, Producers-in-Training have to prove that they can manage a production team by overseeing a production at The Game. Succeeding in this task lets the Production Managers know that they can trust the new Producer with a Show Contract.
