September 17 2012 marked the one year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street. On this date last year, people from all walks of life responded to a call in Adbusters magazine to form an encampment in the financial district of New York City, the heart of global capitalism, and to call attention to the widening economic divide between what became known as the infamous "99%" vs. the 1% of America's richest. In just a matter of days, #OWS had started a continent-wide dialogue on issues such as the debt crisis, housing, poverty, racism, and colonialism. Occupy became not only a buzz-word, but a tactic taken up by hundreds of cities in all corners of the world, including right here in Montreal.
Now, one year later, CUTV News will look at the impact and legacy of this global movement, and speak with some of its local organizers.
